Ronda Rousey is the 1st female fighter in the UFC, and with good reason

20 Dec

In November 2012, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that Ronda Rousey has become the first female fighter to sign with the UFC. This was followed with expected backslash from a portion of the UFC’s fan base through social media.

Rousey takes it in stride and can dish it out as well. Shes noted for introducing trash talking to womens MMA. During this years ESPY awards, Rouse was quoted with saying “I Would Beat The Crap Out Of Kim Kardashian”  as well as beefing with other female MMA fighters via Twitter, which is a platform she’s also dominating over all other female fighters at almost 152K followers! She is well aware of social media powers and what the entertainment industry thrives on, what grabs headlines and turns to massive amounts of free publicity. “I have a bad-girl thing going on,” Rousey said. “I can screw up and it’s no big thing. I can get caught at a brothel with a bottle of Jack.”

ronda arms upUFC President, Dana White stands behind her with saying “She’s a huge star, she gets more media than anyone else out there and she’s the reason that I was interested in doing this. She’s mean, she’s nasty and she likes to finish people. She’s the one who got this thing kickstarted and got me interested in it.”

Now the first UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Rousey did not come out of left field. A 2 time olympic fighter. Multiple National and international Judo championships. Her mixed martial arts career exploded soon after in 2010. While she still remains undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and having won most of those fights with her signature armbar within the first minute!

With UFC 157 coming up on Feb. 23 2013 and if the Mayans were incorrect, well be seeing another first in history, as Rousey will be defending her championship as the main event for the evening.

WeShareMedia loves seeing others use social media to its full potential and how it can only benefit people in any line of work. Not to mention MMA fighting taken to a whole new level with women wed much rather have on our side at a bar fight.
